Anguilla

Anguilla is situated in the Leeward Islands and has a total area of approximately 56 miles; the islands are still a British colony. The current population is just under 10,000 people. In common with most other current or former British Caribbean Islands the official language is English; the main business is tourism and the Islands have some excellent hotels and restaurants in addition to facilities for fishing and diving.

In recent years, Anguilla has become a significant provider of offshore financial services and a popular location for the incorporation of IBCs. Until 1969, Anguilla was part of St. Kitts and Nevis, but applied to remain a British Colony, this status was officially granted in 1982. Anguilla is governed by an Executive Council of ministers, appointed from the Legislative Council of elected members, and presided over by a British appointed Governor. Britain maintains responsibility for defense and foreign affairs. Elections are held at least once every five years.

As with most remaining British Caribbean territories Anguilla is autonomous in relation to internal matters, this high degree of self-government provides the Island with responsibility for all matters relating to taxation.

Anguilla is situated one and a half hours flying time southeast of Miami, Florida or four and a half hours from New York. Most European clients can access the Island using connecting flights via either Miami or New York. Direct flights are available from London Heathrow Airport (LHR) to Anguilla (AXA) as well as from several other major European airports. Of course, most clients never decide to visit the home of their offshore company — there is no requirement to do so — although a holiday in the Caribbean can provide an excellent opportunity to check out the local facilities such as banks, accountants, trust companies and mail drops in person.

If you decide to take a trip to the Caribbean one advantage of Anguilla is that if you sail from Florida by boat you have a number of excellent potential stop off points on route. Some of our clients make an annual trip to the Caribbean; this provides the opportunity to combine a spot of business with a very enjoyable holiday, taking in some excellent beaches and restaurants. Should you decide to engage in a spot of island hopping potential stop off points are Puerto Rico, St. Maarten, Antigua and Curacao. One client regularly fly's the route below stopping off at various locations.

For many clients a major plus is that in Anguilla the official and spoken language is English.

The local currency is the Eastern Caribbean dollar, the Island has no Foreign Exchange controls and the US dollar circulates freely throughout the island. Bank accounts — both personal and corporate — are available in most major currencies including US dollars and euros. If your form a local IBC it is restricted from conducting business with persons resident on Anguilla, engaging in banking or trust business or providing company management services.

In Anguilla, an IBC may maintain bank accounts, retain professional advisors carry on business within Anguilla, maintain corporate records, hold meetings and lease office space. In Anguilla, ownership of the company is not disclosed to the authorities and bearer shares are also permitted. As regards taxation Anguilla is what is referred to as a pure tax haven this means it has no direct taxation in the form of income tax, capital gains tax, gift tax or inheritance tax and best of all NO DOUBLE TAXATION AGREEMENTS

One significant advantage for German, Swiss and Austrian clients is that the name of the IBC can end in GmbH or alternatively one of the following: Ltd, Corp, Inc., SA, NV, and BV.
